Craton Promotions – The 2023 Honda Indy Toronto was a thrilling race that saw Christian Lundgaard claim his first-ever IndyCar Series win in his rookie season. The Danish driver, who started from the pole position, led 49 of the 85 laps and held off a late charge from Scott Dixon to take the checkered flag by 0.8 seconds Lundgaard, who drives for Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing, became the first European driver to win the Toronto race since Justin Wilson in 2005

Craton Promotions is the official merchandiser for the Honda Indy Toronto and we had a full crew of “At The Events” members at the track, which was made on the downtown streets of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Charles, Thomas, Micah, Jakob, and I were all on hand to meet the record-breaking crowd for what is known as Toronto’s premier motorsports festival of the year.

I was set up for the race on the outside of the track, which was nicknamed “Thunder Alley” either because it was really loud, or it was really open and sunny. After spending days out with the fans in Thunder Alley I think it was probably both of the above.

The black and blue official event shirts all sold out over the weekend, the fans were very nice and I had a great time talking on the microphone and playing the music while my fan zone neighbors were Sirius XM Radio and Oakley Sunglasses. We all had a great time with the huge crowds.

We got to do some amazing sightseeing while in Toronto, we went to a rooftop restaurant, and we found a hidden Tiki Bar (Thank You Adam Ellis) We walked around our neighborhood and drank coffee, stopped at bodegas.

The race was full of drama and action, as several drivers had to deal with tricky track conditions, tire strategy, and yellow flags. The most notable incident occurred on lap 37, when Alex Palou, the championship leader, crashed into the wall at turn 3 after contacting Ed Jones. Palou’s car suffered heavy damage and he had to retire from the race, ending his streak of six consecutive top-five finishes Palou’s misfortune allowed Dixon his Chip Ganassi Racing teammate, to close the gap in the points standings to just 15 points.

Other drivers who had strong performances in Toronto were Colton Herta, who finished third after starting from the back of the grid due to a penalty for an unapproved engine change, Simon Pagenaud, who came fourth after a late pass on Josef Newgarden, and Romain Grosjean, who scored his best result on a street course with a sixth-place finish. The race also featured the return of James Hinchcliffe, the hometown hero, who finished tenth in his first IndyCar race since 20222.

The Honda Indy Toronto was the tenth round of the 2023 IndyCar season and attracted a large crowd of fans who enjoyed the festival atmosphere and the on-site attractions. The event also raised money for Make-A-Wish® Canada through the Honda Fan Friday initiative. The next race on the calendar is the Music City Grand Prix in Nashville on August 6.
