Grand Prix of Portland 2024 Opening Speech At The Merch Store

August 2024 – During the recent Grand Prix of Portland at the Portland International Raceway, I decided to do an opening speech in front of one of our two official merchandise stores on fan row. Sometimes it is good to point out, as a reminder, the importance and long lasting energy of a dated souvenir from an event you have attended. It’s not just a Tee shirt or a hat, or a mug, its part of the moment in time you lived while there. Read the opening speech below and have a great day today.

Good afternoon, everybody.

Let me start by saying how incredible it is to be here at the Portland International Raceway, where history is made, and the roar of engines echoes the determination, passion, and teamwork that defines this sport we all love.

Now, as we gather here today, we’re not just spectators—we’re a part of something bigger. We’re part of a community, a tradition, and an experience that brings people together from all walks of life to witness the thrill of IndyCar racing. It’s an experience that deserves to be remembered, cherished, and shared.

And that’s why it’s so important—while you’re here, soaking in every moment, feeling that rush of adrenaline—to grab your official merchandise souvenir. Because when the checkered flag waves and the race is done, these souvenirs become more than just items. They become a part of your story, a symbol of the day you were here, a day you were part of something extraordinary.

So, I encourage you all, whether it’s your first race or your fiftieth, to take a piece of this experience home with you. Let it be a reminder of the excitement, the community, and the spirit of IndyCar racing that we’re all here to celebrate.
